OK, time for a definitive answer.

COM port        incoming port   outgoing port
COM1            /dev/ttyS0      /dev/cua0       
COM2            /dev/ttyS1      /dev/cua1
COM3            /dev/ttyS2      /dev/cua2
COM4            /dev/ttyS3      /dev/cua3

See the Linux Device list for major/minor device numbers.  Use the outgoing port
name for dialout (hardwire and modems).  Use the incoming port name for logins
and mice.
