options. It turned out that I needed "-xy" on the xwd command - I had not
tried this previously as the man page states that it only applies to
color displays and I run monochrome due to a fairly brain-dead VGA card.
So anyway, if anyone cares, here's the sequence that works:

 xwd -xy | xpr -device ljet -rv -density 300 -output /dev/lp1
 echo "" | lpr

 If the print doesn't fill a page, it won't get printed until the page gets
filled up, so I added the echo to lpr to force it out.
