   Does anyone know if any attempts have been made to support the
   Xircom serial/ethernet adapter under Linux ? And if so, where
   one would find the device driver ?

Won't happen.  The kernel requires source code to be available;
Xircom requires that source code NOT be available. You bought the
wrong parallel port adapter to use with an open system.

The following manufacturers support open systems:

D-Link - 714-455-1688
Solectek - 619-450-1220
Accton - 415-266-9800
Compulan - 408-922-6888
[ and soon Kodiak - 510-226-7840 ]

Please tell them that Russell Nelson sent you because of their past
support for packet drivers and free software in general.

Crynwr Software Crynwr Software sells packet driver support.
