When I have installed SLS 1.01 and try to configure TCPIP, I had trouble with the instruction "/etc/hostname". I found it does not change the file "/etc/host". So, when I had run hostcvt.build and reboot linux, the linux got a wrong hostname "softland" and failed for running /etc/config. But I used "vi" to edited "/etc/host" to the correct hostname and solved the problem. Is it normal? Yes, this is normal. Note that /etc/rc.net does something like: hostname `cat /etc/host` as part of its configuration. You have to edit /etc/host, or hardcode the hostname into /etc/rc.net, if you want the hostname you chose to remain after a reboot. /etc/hostname simply issues a system call to the kernel to change the hostname, and is not supposed to change /etc/host. -- Steve VanDevender stevev@greylady.uoregon.edu "Bipedalism--an unrecognized disease affecting over 99% of the population.
