As I explained to the person who asked this last week it is not easy for a
peogram to conditionally load a DLL. (Anyhow to find out if X is running
it's probably going to call a function in the X libraries.)

My advice is:
1) Compile gs w/o X window support (I've never tried this but the Makefile
   has so many options that I'm sure there must be one to exclude X).
or
2) Install the X libraries (they're not all that big - you don't need the
   (whole of X after all)
