Hmm. The Mach port to the Mac does this by essentially making a virtualized
copy of the current system state during bootup, and using that for standard
Mac stuff. The kernel knows about this and is able to use standard Mac
drivers for floppy access and such things.

Disclaimer: CMU didn't yet get around to actually sending me the licensing
stuff for MacMach, much less Mach itself (or the information necessary to SUP
it).
