Donald Becker has a file called network.c that's in his 8390 driver set.  It's
basically the shell interface to the kernel for just this purpose.  Look in
ftp.super.org or usra.edu under /pub/linux/newether.

I just got the 3C505 docs from 3Com and hope to get a driver working for it
in the next month or so.
