AREA:COMP.OS.LINUX
From: jdough@unf6.cis.unf.edu (Joseph Dougherty)
Organization: University of North Florida, Jacksonville

System: 386/40, 8 megs, ET4000, two floppies, Conner 212 meg
IDE on plain vanilla controller, Imprimis 105 RLL on Seagate ST22r
controller:

When booting off a Linus Floppy (boot/root) or SLS, the
system doesn't see the second drive on the RLL controller. The
controller doesn't use the system CMOS or BIOS for drive information.
I has a built-in BIOS that reads the drive information from the
drive and feeds it to the system BIOS.
According to the FAQ, this may be why Linux doesn't see the
secondary controller. However, OS/2 and DOS 4.01 both seem to see
the controller and the drive properly (interestingly, DRDOS 6.0
won't...in fact, I can't get DRDOS to work with that controller at
all).
Peter MacDonald mentioned that there might be a patch available
to get around this problem, but I haven't seen it on the
sites on in this group lately.
Should anyone have a clue about this, please e-mail.
Thanks.
