This isn't exactly the same thing, but there is a very useful program
called 'ttcp' that simply creates a TCP pipe between two machines.
It's perfect for backups, and is noticably faster than ftp for some
transfers.
The bad news it that it stopped working with 0.99.5. But I'm certain
that it'll be fixed RSN. There is also a little security issue... it
doesn't do authentication on the connection -- that's left for a
higher level.
It's available at finer departments store and archive sites near you.
There's a version on 'ftp.super.org:/pub/linux/net/ttcp.[c1]' that
fixes a few Linux type mismatches.
