I am having serious difficulties with lilo and need help. I am not experienced at all with this, and I really can not seem to figure out what is going on / wrong even though I have read all the documentation. I currently have BootManager, and OS/2, and Linux installed with everything working except to boot linux I must use a floppy. The linux I am using is the SLS version. (I downloaded SLS a, b, and c and installed.) I have been trying to use the lilo version that came with the SLS to get linux to boot from the hard drive under BootManager. It seems to run ok, but when I boot to it, I get "LILO loading......" and then it appears to start to boot normally. It reports on lpt1, etc, then I get a kernal panic saying it cannot handle swap request at such and such a place. After trying all kinds of things in vain, I removed the version of lilo I had installed, and went to tsx-11.mit.edu to get lilo.8.tar.Z. I did all the make s to get this version ready, and then tried to run it using /# /etc/lilo/lilo -b /dev/hda1 -i /etc/lilo/boot.b -v -v -v /Image and now it tells me: DEVICE 0X0301: MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CYLINDERS IS 1023, NOT 1024. I have no idea what this means. Although the documentation for lilo is very nice, I can not for the life of me figure out what the heck is going on. Can some kind soul take my hand and walk me through this? Thanks in advance.
