I've been having the same sort of problems, where sometimes the
hard drive will sit and spin with the drive activity light on,
then get a controller reset and work fine, under Linux.

I've seen the proposed kernel hack, and with a delay of 1000 the
timeouts happen only once in a blue moon, but the disk seems to be
significantly slower.

Here's the real bad thing: A friend of mine has a 7213A also, and
he's even getting drive hangs IN DOS! This is a 386-25, with
a seagate 85-megger as master. Mine is a 386-40, Forex chipset,
no way to change the bus speed, but the manual says it is 8 MHz
with a 386-40 in place. He's also tried two similar but different
controllers, with no luck.

Anybody know anything about maxtor 7213A's hanging, especially
in DOS?
