I have AMI-BIOS too, and I have the same problem...
occasionally...

I tried Ctrl Alt Del and the computer hangs
I did a cold reboot, logged in, looked at some files, logged out,
  tried Alt Ctrl Del and the computer rebooted.

Now *that's* spooky..... :)
