        I am able to run kermit as a non-root (I am doing it now, as a matter
of fact), but I have ttys1 as crw-rw-rw-  root    root, and I have
/usr/bin/kermit as rwxr-xr-x root root.  Perhaps the only tricky thing
is when you want ttys1 (or whatever) with a protection of rw-------,
in which case a setgid or setuid bit for the kermit executable would make
sense.
