This is an old problem of the Minix file system. Because the kernel
uses 16 bit gids, but the Minix FS only uses 8 bit gids, the upper
8 bits are lost whenever the inode is removed from memory and has to
be read back in from disk.

The EXT FS should be able to handle 16 bit gids.
