It sounds like there must be something else you have in common than
just having a fast machine.  I have a 486/33 with 256k cache, 8 MB
memory, ISA motherboard and SCSI hard drives and have no problem.
Are you both using IDE hard drives?

(Just thought Linus would like to know - 0.97 works great on my machine!)
I have noticed some slowdown in X windows - but without ps and free I
haven't been able to check system load and compare it with 0.96c to be
sure it isn't something I'm doing.
