Hi Lunixers: It seems that my machine does not like Linux 0.97 :=(. I have a 486 with 256K cache and had no problem with any version of Linux, until I tried 0.97 today. 0.97 compiled OK but when I try to boot, it hangs just before printing out HD partitions data. If I boot at lower speed (8 Mhz vs. 33 Mhz) then it comes up OK. After putting few "printk" and several reboots, I found that when I boot at 33Mhz, the machine get stuck in wait_on_buffer() in file buffer.c in subdirectory fs. This is called in function bread(). Wonder how this can happen and how to fix this. Please post any info here. Thousand thanks in advance. BTW my machine has AMI BIOS and two IDE hard drives.
