Are there any large subdivisions in the non-X group? It seems that
there are a lot of gcc related questions/answers. What are the
percentages of gcc/g++ in that group?

On the "various topics" category, I assume it is 21 messages and 15.1%?
Again, if you split out gcc, is it a significant amount?

I can't see splitting out anything other than X and gcc. I would say
that the amount of X discussion warrants it. I don't know about
gcc/g++ because the statistics aren't there, but it sure seems like
a good percentage.
