I don't have ftp access either, save through the (now somewhat strained? <g>)
patience of a friend. There is, however, ftpmail which does support ftp
through email. The address is ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com and it will do *one*
chdir and *one* get per session. All files are broken into 50K chunks and
mailed as part 001, 002, etc. ASCII files are returned (surprise) as ASCII
files. You *must* tell ftpmail to convert binaries to uuencoded files or
*nothing* comes back but a "you lose."

If I remember correctly, sending "help" to ftpmail-request@decwrl.dec.com
should get you instructions and a full instruction set listing.

Here are scripts to retrieve an ASCII and a binary file from TSX-11:

connect tsx-11.mit.edu anonymous your.address@this.spot.example
chdir pub/linux
get INFO-SHEET
quit

connect tsx-11.mit.edu anonymous your.address@this.spot.example
chdir pub/linux/mirrors/X11/Incoming
binary
uuencode
get X386kit.tar.Z
quit

Keep in mind that you'll get a *lot* of messages back. Pasting them
together is a pain (they don't always arrive in order). The turnaround
time varies from 2 hours to 2 days; if you make an error in spelling or
case (e.g., Incoming vs. incoming), you'll get back "so sorry - you lose -
insert a quarter to play again."

Good luck!

Rick
