I did a head -c bytecount file.Z xxx.Z vice > xxx.Z after ftp resulting
in catting a .Z to a virtual console.  Only apparent effect was NUMLOCK
stuck on --- until did a CTRL-ALT-DEL which painted screen with
repeating garbage and killed linux.  John
