The idea of *free* *public domain* software is to provide solutions to common problems in the computing community. The size of the machine reflects the size of the problem. X11 is essentially cost free, but it needs a lot of resources. KCL and AKCL are cost free, and won't run in less than 4 Meg. Be careful of the term *public domain* ... Linux is not in the *public domain*, it is owned by Linus, who has been kind enough to let the rest of us use it. ps.
