Hello,

I have been trying to bring up linux - SLS .98 pl5-42 on
a 386 based Gateway machine (motherboard is from the American Megatrends era).

I believe that I have installed linux successfully, however I am having
trouble bringing X up.

I was unable to find my video hardware in the vga.dbase, so I attempted
to design a driver configuration based upon Chin Fang's tutorial.

My driver, however, resulted in a screen that resembled a television with
the horizontal hold mistuned, and a cpu that would not respond to
keyboard commands (no boot on ctrl-alt-delete, no disk activity on sync, etc.)

The question that I now have, is whether or not my video hardware is
supported by the SLS .98 pl5-42 version of X. My hardware is as follows:

- Zenith Data Systems ZCM-1490 analog RGB fixed frequency monitor
- Orchid Technology ProDesigner Plus VGA Graphics Adapter (512k)

For the record my Xconfig file is as follows:

======================== Cut Here ===========================
#
# some nice paths, to avoid conflicts with other X-servers

Microsoft "/dev/ttys2"

# SampleRate 150

If anyone can provide insight, I would appreciate it.

Thank You,
