HELP...
I am having some really wierd problems when trying to install Linux for the
first time using the SLS distribution.
First off, here is the configuration:
386sx 2MB ram
2 Quantum 105M SCSI drives with a Seagate ST-02 Controller.
plain ol' VGA
I am using patch level 5 of the SLS distribution.
Okay, here is what happened.
1) removed all existing partitions on /dev/sda
2) repartitioned entire drive as follows:
device start end blocks type
/dev/sda1 1 502 51203 Linux/Minix
/dev/sda2 503 904 41004 Linux/Minix
/dev/sda3 905 1005 10302 Linux Swap
no problems so far.
3) reboot.
4) mkswap -c /dev/sda3 10302 /* to make swap space */
5) swapon /dev/sda3
6) mkfs /dev/sda1 51203
7) mkfs /dev/sda2 41004
8) doinstall /dev/sda1 then selected 2 for full base system.
at this point, everytime it asks for another disk and put it in and
press enter I get the following on the screen:
[MS-DOS FS Rel. alpha. 8, FAT 12, check=n, conv=b,uid=0,gid=0,umask=000]
[me=0xf0,cs=1,#f=2,fs=1,fl=9,ds=19,de=224,data=33,se=2880,ts=0]
No bmap support
is this normal?
anyway, I assumed that this was okay and continued with the install.
Lastly, I inserted a freshly formatted disk and make the boot disk as
it said to do. Everything looked fine to me. When I try to reboot the
the machine, it goes through the normal boot/loading info then prints
No bmap support
on the screen and hangs. No disk access or anything, it just sits there.
I can't figure this out and would appreciate any help anyone may have.
thanks in advance,
-jason
