I have installed Linux into the bootmanager menu. Thanks all who
helped..
what did the trick was repartitioning with OS/2 fdisk, as per the FAQ.
Actually, once I did that, it was ridiculously easy!!!

p.s. Now I have to worry about my roomates booting linux by accident
and not syncing when the shutdown ... :(
