   No it wont work with ATI driver, included in Xfree86. ATI
   PRO is (correct me if I'm wrong) basically a Ultra ATI
   dressed up in local bus configuration. Anyway, it is a
   8514 card. And there exists a driver for this card,
   called X386 (it is a whole server). Look for it on major
   sites (nic, sunsite).

Absolutely FALSE.  Plain and staright, this is WRONG.

I have the ATI Ultra Pro.  I just installed SLS with its X stuff.
Works fine.  Use chipset ATI and you're all set.  No problem.  You
absolutely do NOT have to use the 8514 server.

Now you might WANT to, that is another question.  The 8514 server is
supposed to be a lot faster.  However, the localbus is pretty fast, so
I haven't felt compelled to change servers myself.  Maybe someday.

You can definitely use the ATI Ultra Pro as an SVGA if you want to.
