Hi there!
I think that I have just found two bugs (or one) in linux-0.98.4 !
The first one seems to be a null-pointer trap.
I got the following output after running on
a (probably) damadged floppy:
falcon@krikkit.tty2 (text/KWEA): tar tvf /dev/fd0
* floppy 0: data CRC error: track 0, head 1, sector 1
* Reset-floppy called
floppy 0: data CRC error: track 0, head 1, sector 1
floppy I/O error
dev 0200, sector 18
Unable to handle kernel paging request at address c0000013
Oops: 0000
EIP: 0008:00017D3D
EFLAGS: 00010202
fs: 0017
base: 00000000, limit: C0000000
Pid: 67, process nr: 8
80 78 12 00 74 09 50 e8 2b e4
Segmentation fault
falcon@krikkit.tty2 (text/KWEA):
(The lines marked with '*' repeated some times)
And the second one came just 2 minutes after it so perhaps
it was caused by the first.
I tried to format the floppy (same as before) with fdformat
the output was something like:
* fdformat: sector not found (don't know thew number)
and then
* floppy 0: data CRC error: track 0, head 1, sector 1
floppy I/O error
dev 0200, sector 18
Kernel panic: Trying to free free buffer.
and then the system was useless. That means I was able to
switch consoles via <ALT><F?> but I was not able
to do anything else.
My setup is:
386-33 with 64KB Cache
AMI BIOS
Adaptec 1542B SCSI-Controller
Quantum PD210S Harddisc
8MB RAM
Hercules Monochrom Adapter (the prize for the disc :-()
LILO 0.6
linux-0.98.4 with new scsi-code from tsx-11
(fscsi-a06-pl1)
rest of the system is a wild collection done by myself
(using linux since 0.95c)
and if it matters I am using the extended filesystem only
ObThanx to all the contributors to this fine system
(By the way: Is anybody working on X for hercules ??? ;-))) )

Bye,
Falcon
