doing lots of permission fixes. If i send mail as root (with elm) to other user
that mailfile to exmpl. user1 gets senders ownership.
I dunno if this happen if /var/spool/mail has already a mailfile, but that's
not the correct fix either.(?)
You mention also that less (in SLS more is also less:) doesn`t found it's
helpfile, it's there but in wrong (actually i think it's in right location)

I've hooked a TRS-80 Model 4P into here for a quick test. :) It worked
fine, both under LS-DOS as well as CP/M. You shouldn't have a problem with
the C128. All you need is a modem program. I got the /ASM source for a
VT-100 emulator for the 4P that I used, but most any terminal emulator
should work fine in conjunction with a null-modem cable.

Several netters have asked me how I fixed the tcpip bug that causes it to
be dumb about protocols (SLS release). I followed someone's instructions
in the mail-archives and can't remember the source but you basically
can use emacs to replace j^Bj^Aj^B with j^Fj^Aj^B in config. There is only
one place where this change takes effect. Make sure your rc.net file is
set up o.k. (some installations put tcpip stuff in /usr/etc/inet, some in
/etc), and that the appropriate files have execute permission set.

According to Michael K. Johnson and Brendan B. Boerner (who have it
on authority from Linus himself), the bogus do_no_page warnings can
safely be commented out. Apparently they are not harmful and are
indicative of an older, buggier CPU (which my ancient Compaq most
likely is).

I had my paradise working fine with X before I got a new video card.
What you might want to do is make sure you aren't setting any clocks
in Xconfig, and set the chipset to pvga. Then do a startx >& log.file
Look in the file and see what clocks it gave you. Then put these in your
clocks line in Xconfig.
I remember that X couldn't find my card unless I speceified chipset in the
Xconfig. But, that was one version back for X. Make sure you are using

Bob, I know you are a big advocate of the "linux will not die" camp,
but we have to be reasonable. If I told my boss I was going out for
lunch for 40 minutes because my workstation was busy creating a core
file, I don't think he would be too sympathetic.
Does anybody know what would be involved in setting up some kind of
SysV like limits so that a few more buffers are left around when
linux runs out of virtual memory? Linux uses GCC as its compiler ->

Your linker is failing to locate an ANSI library function.

int isnan (double x);
This should return 1 if x is not a valid IEEE number and zero
otherwise. I suggest you look through the source for the maths
library libm.a. I don't have linux running and so cannot help
further.

I've been getting a lot of spurrious 'bogus do_no_page' messages. I
haven't noticed any ill-effects and have been ignoring them, but I
was curious as to why they would occur. I'm still a newbie and wasn't
able to glean much about do_no_page from the source (though I'd
welcome any helpful tutorials. :)
For what it's worth, I'm running 0.98p1 on an ancient Compaq 386
with a 300M ESDI drive.

I just installed SLS 0.98.1 and it went quite smoothly, except for
a4/zafix.taz, which produced the message:
chmod: usr/tmp: No such file or directory
Looking at zafix, I think doing the following will fix up what was
wrong:
mkdir usr/tmp
chmod ugo+rwxt usr/tmp
Is this all, or am I missing something here?
Second, there seem to be a lot of man pages missing. Do they not exist
yet, or do I need to get another package?

ImageMagick reads RLE images. Perhaps you have an older version. Look
for ImageMagick 2.0 as contrib/ImageMagick.tar.Z on export.lcs.mit.edu.
I also have reduced the memory requirements of `animate' by a factor of 5.
The example animation, ImageMagick.animation.tar.Z, previously required
30mb of virtual memory. It now requires 6.

answer. You can f'req COMPRESS.ZIP from EchoMania (1:2250/1) at HST
speeds. If you're not a SysOp/PointOp and don't do file-requests, my
BBS allows first time callers download access to the files in the Linux
area, compress being one of them...

It cried: cant find /lib/libX11.1.1
I tried links to the jump/no-jump libX11's , but the result were segmentation faults. (xlock and xload(?) coming with
SLS.98 show the same behaviour).
Where can I get those libraries????
(Please, dont say: take the sources and recompile! I am a beginner
and at least gwm seems to be a very hard piece of work. )

I've just reinstalled Linux, using SLS 0.98. After a few modifications, things appears to
be fine, exept for X-windos.
When I run X386mono -pn, I get the gray background, with the mouse cursor. Both the
mouse and the virtual-screen scrolling works, but I get no windows on the screen.
Something must be wrong with my startup-files, I guess, but I don't know what.
I currently use a Trident9000 card with a 486DX, and all other software apears to
be ok.
Any help appreciated.

I'm using raytrace and ImageMagick. A little tricking getting
from the rle to miff format though. Had to go through gif using xv.
Anyone know how to get rayshade to output seperate files for each frame,
or how to view later frames in the single output file?? XV only
reads the 1st.
Or better yet, how about a filter for rle to miff, or even a rle
animator??????????? :)

Please don't laugh, but I have an old C128 (Commodore) lying in the corner and
I would like to use it as a Terminal together with Linux. Btw a friend of mine
would like to do the same, to have terminal for his girlfriend.

necessary software for C128 and what kind of hardware do I need. (The C128 has
a RS232 and I hope I can use it int he CP/M Mode). I'm using 0.98pl2.
