For normal TCP connections, this sort of thing is simple. In fact it has already been done. Maybe chupchup will post his rrd program? For more complicated things like ftp, things get hairy, but with skillfull programming it could be done. Trying to compile linux 0.98, where is protocols.h ?
Hi, I decided to install Linux 0.98, having got the source, and the patches 0.98.patch1, 0.98.patch2 . I tought I'd be clever and save my self sometime, by installing all 3 i.e Linux 0.98 and both patches together. How do I *use* my new kernel (H.J.'s dist)
I've re-compiled my kernel, producing the file /usr/src/Image ... so *now* what? I've got Hlu's system installed, booting from the hard-drive on /dev/hda2 (which is what I set the ROOTDEV as). I'd like to boot this new kernel from the hard drive (not floppy). How do I do it? Do I just, "cp /usr/src/Image /vmlinux" ??? I was trying to get XFree to run on my system. I looked through the video tutorials and it mentioned a file called clock.exe which is used to find the clock entries for Xconfig. I installed X from SLS, and I can't find the file? Can anyone help? Thank you.

There is a simple patch (removing one test in an if-statement in memory.c), but it's not a real solution to the problem, so I won't even post it here (I did post it to the NET channel as I wanted some response to some other problems with tcp/ip). 0.98.3 will correct all of these that I have so far gotten reports on (and the pre-version that is available to limited testers (ie the mailing-lists) corrects 99% of them). 0.98.3 will be out this weekend, so I'd suggest you wait two days for it. ...

Problem with X and 486DX2 cached processor
Hi, I wonder if anybody has come across the following problem and know of any way of solving it. I helped a friend to install Linux on his new machine the other day. I was using the SLS distribution (the latest one) and everything seemed to work fine except when I tried to start X. After typing 'startx' the system simply rebooted after a few seconds. X11(on SLS-0.98) works on my trident-8900C card
I finally downloaded all the SLS-0.98 package. After check the clocks by running the clock.exe, and play with the video-timings, I got the XFree86 to work, and it works great. I have 64MB+8MB swap running on my 486DX33 with 4MB RAM + trident8900c card + no-name monitor(but with manual). One problem though: After exit X-window, the screen disappears. minix as a V86 task?
I am going to take a class that requires a little Minix programming ( either this spring or in the fall ) and I was wondering if anyone ever tried to run Minix ( an 8088 version, of course, not the 386 version ) under Linux. I realize that the best solution would be to convince the teacher to use Linux instead of Minix, but Linux does not come with a textbook.. To fix ps, top, etc in SLS, just do the following: chown root.mem /dev/kmem It seems that I copied the /dev dir from Hlu's root disk, and and it broke kmem.

Greetings ! Like many others, it seems, I have installed sls 98.1 completely and am now trying to get x11 up and running. Seems like everything is fine and I even installed Thomas Scheunemann's x8514anew file using his excellent directions.
