Hi.... I am hearing some scattered reports of problems, but which are
contradicted by others saying that they have no problems once they
updated to 0.98pl3. I *think* that at least some of the internal modem
problems have been solved, but I am not sure if everybody's problems
have been solved. I am also trying to separate out people who are
having problems which may be due to configuration error --- for example,
the /dev/ttys1 --> (COM1, COM2) confusion --- from people who are
genuinely having problems with the serial driver.

If people who are having trouble could fill out the following form, and
send it back to me, I would be very grateful. If people who aren't
having trouble could also send me back a report, I would also apprecate
it. However, it is most important that if you are having trouble you
fill it out, so that I can get as much information as I can. Thanks!!!

Please return this form by EMAIL to: tytso@mit.edu. I would appreciate
it if you preserve the subject header "To all people who are having
trouble with the serial driver", so I can separate these reports from
the rest of my mail.

Please fill in as many blanks as possible. If you are not sure, just
leave it blank. However, the more information you give me, the better
chance I will have of figuring out what your problem is and fixing it.

[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]

At boot time, copy down _exactly_ the boot messages pertaining to the
serial driver initialization. There should be anywhere from 1 to 14
lines that look something like this: "ttys0 at 0x03f8 (irq = 3) is a 16450"
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]

Copy down the _exactly_ the results of the following command:
        ls -l /dev/ttys*
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]

Please describe *exactly* what the symptoms of your problem are.
(performance problems, DTR not being raised, etc.) Please list what
programs you used to test this problem. I would appreciate it if you
tried using kermit to talk to your modem/terminal and let me know what
results you get, since there are many things that could go wrong with
things like UUCP which aren't under the control of the serial driver.
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]

Is there any additional information about your configuration that you
think I should know?
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]

Thank you for your time!
