Bash has another convincing argument in that git currently depends on
bash scripts. If we can't free people from Windows we should at least
try to free them from cmd.

Bash should be default, it's not that hard to go from cmd.exe to bash.
If a user is proficient in cmd.exe and wants to stay there, the
geek-factor must be enormous [like wearing ascii-glasses
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/07/vr-goggles-turn-the-real-world-into-ascii-art/
] and (s)he should have no problem finding a way to add "cmd.exe" in
.bash_profile.
