It would be better to do the "if (!$diff_use_color)" part
upfront before entering the loop, wouldn't it?

	sub colored_diff_hunk {
        	my ($text) = @_;
		if (!$diff_use_color) {
	                return @$text;
		}

                my @ret;
                for (@$text) {
                	...
		}
	}
