Weird installation issue

Hello,
I recently wanted to update FreeBSD on my computer to latest version,
but now I am facing weird problem. After completing installation from
dvd I can't boot into BSD. I naturally assumed this is some boot
manager/boot sector issue, and since I am using Vista also (but on the
other hard disk) I first overwrited its boot manager with FreeBSD's but
without any luck (when I press F2 to start BSD machine either stops to
respond or prints # for any keypress, no any messages from BSD
bootload...

Odd disk spin-ups (seperate non-OS-disk)

Hello,

I have -current installed on a SSD (incl. /var) and have another,=20
usually not used, hard disk which gets spun down after some minutes idle =

time.
Frequently my complete system stops (no mouse moving) until the not used =

hard disk spins up.
How can I find out what process causes the disk access and more=20
important, why does it block my complete system?

Best regards,

-Harry

Re: ulpt problem (USB_ERR_IOERROR)

These two lines are interesting. Are these printed when doing the same job?

If the actlen is not a factor of 64 in your case, the printer will think that
the document has ended. Could you verify that, that cups is feeding too little
data into the ULPT port?

Re: nice work on ntp.conf!

Really nice, although I feel uncomfortable about the use of LOCAL. It is
a great opportunity for foot shooting and, since most systems running
NTP are not used as serves, I think that it should be left commented
out in the default case.

Re: RFC: ATA to CAM integration patch

I've found how to make this DVD work. It refused to process PACKET
command until I have explicitly set it's PATA-legacy transfer mode to
the maximal supported.

%camcontrol devlist
<ST3500410AS CC34> at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (pass0,ada0)
<MATSHITA DVD-ROM UJDA780 1.50> at scbus2 target 0 lun 0 (cd0,pass1)

Patch committed to P4.

thank you for answering. I am working with newest 8.0-CURRENT.

Your latest changes in our post were at:

After that patches, I got the following output

The entry in /sys/dev/usb/usbdevs (line 1649) seems ok:

Re: Logitech QuickCam 9000 Pro

No, that is without any driver from ports (which driver do you mean?).
My report relates to the (new) usb stack from system, I think.

Actually I get the following message when using usbconfig:

# usbconfig
ugen1.2: <product 0x0990 vendor 0x046d> at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST
spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON

Re: Logitech QuickCam 9000 Pro

Ok, now I get it.

You need to add the "USB_VERBOSE" option to the kernel config. Verbose output
is not compiled by default any more.

You need to edit:

src/sys/conf/options

And change:

USBVERBOSE opt_usb.h

Into:

USB_VERBOSE opt_usb.h

Ok, now I get the full message back:

# usbconfig
ugen1.2: <QuickCam Pro 9000 Logitech> at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH

But what was the intention to print this message less verbose?

And one other question: Do you know a working driver in the ports system
for the Quickcam Pro 9000?

Thanks for all,
