    It could be because I am running backups over my T1 to my outside 
    backup box.  Crater itself is not busy.

    I just turned on net.inet.tcp.inflight_enable on my backup box, it
    should improve responsiveness over the T1.  If that isn't enough you
    could try uploading the dist to leaf and committing from there.
