This year, for my 32nd birthday, I got the "privilege" of having Phoenix's best morning time talk DJ replaced by Adam Carolla. I don't dislike Adam Carolla, at least not with the passion I reserve for Howard Stern, but I certainly enjoyed Chuck Powell's morning ritual a hell of a lot more than Adam Carolla.
I think yesterday or the day before marked my six year anniversary of being out of the US Navy. I have now been out of that unfortunate organization for as long as I was in it.
Good riddance. Navy sucks!
Well, I missed the month mark, but I guess I'll do the news thing.
It was an exciting news weekend. Synopsis, I'm single again, had to go to a funeral (not the same person), and an ex-girlfriend got married (again, not the same person). I'm not going to go into detail on any of that.
Two months and nary an update....no apologies, I've been busy. Two bands, an engaging job, two cats, and a girlfriend. It's been a busy couple of months. Here's some of what I've been doing:
It's probably obvious to many admins out there, but today I learned first hand. If you've got an SFTP / SCP sessions that starts out quick and slows down radically after a short time, you've probably got a duplex mismatch between your server and your network switch.
It's hard to believe that the terrorist attacks were six years ago now. I don't really have any prolific thing to say.
Saturday, my used copy of Amped: Notes from a Go-Nowhere Punk Band showed up in my mailbox. Powell's in Portland rocks. I miss being able to just go to that place.
By that I refer not only to the Kraftwerk song, but to the endless amounts of crap I've been cleaning up from my hard disks. Why do I still have RPMs from the RedHat 6.2 days?
It thunderstormed for a bit last night. I love Thunderstorms. Of course in Arizona, it's so hot and dry, I think most of the rain evaporates before it hits anything, but it knocks the temperature down nicely. It also makes whatever dirt your car had on it look absolutely terrible, as if it were raining dirt.
Have you seen that new commercial, for the Dell Inspiron? The one that shows it coming in multiple colors. I love that commercial. It's nice to see a competitor to Apple coming out with a commercial that artistically competes.
I haven't blogged in a month. It seems that I blog the most when there is the least stuff going on. What does that tell you about my priorities? I think the truth is that I just don't want to blog about something until I have a chance to process it myself.
Yesterday I did something that was long overdue since I moved to Arizona; I called my MasterCard issuer and negotiated my interest rate down. Way down...from 18.3% to 0% for six months, and prime plus 2.94% afterwards. I did this once before, back in 2000, right after I read the Motley Fool's book "You have more than you think" and I was trying to get prepared to get out of the Navy. That time, I negotiated a fixed rate, but for some reason, the credit card companies decided that once I moved (or maybe it was got divorced), all bets were off. I was pissed, but stupidly did nothing about it until now. In any case, now that's handled.
